Location: The 2014 Unwritten is made from Cabernet grown in gravelly loam soil in an alluvial fan at the Lewelling Family Ranch at the base of Spring Mountain in Saint Helena.
Weather: Drought conditions entering 2014 served to concentrate flavors while the even temperature conditions of the summer allowed the fruit to develop full phonological ripeness. An early harvest yielded excellent, consistent quality.
Nose: The nose has a rich bouquet of blackberry, licorice and cassis elegantly combined with graphite and the lightest touch of vanilla oak.
Palate: On the palate, the wine expresses sheer elegance by opening with incredible depth and complexity with clean pure flavors of crème de cassis, touches of sandalwood, baking spices, and cocoa powder. As the palate develops further notes of olaillieberry, espresso and tea are clearly discernable. On the finish, the sweet and fine tannins show plenty of promise that the wine will age gracefully for many years to come.
